Clinical laboratory technicians use microscopes, laboratory equipment, chemicals and computers to perform laboratory procedures. They also collect blood specimens and prepare culture media. They conduct tests and prepare for clinical technologists or physicians.

Duties and responsibilities: biomedical equipment technicians inspect, maintain, and repair different types of medical equipment used to diagnose and treat disease. They perform safety operate equipment. Biomedical equipment technology has been one of the fastest growing medical career fields in recent years.

Average salary: $20,000- $38,000

Educational requirements:

Students should take challenging science, math, and electronics courses in high school.

Following high school biomedical equipment technicians complete one to three years of course work in biomedical equipment technology, medical- electronics, or biomedical- engineering. Most programs lead to certification and/ or associate degrees. Some employers will hire electronics, technicians, and provide on-the-job biomedical technology training.
